February 13, 2016

Happy February everyone. Enjoying this cold weather are we?! I certainly hope so.

The winter months are pretty busy for us here at Ivey League Mix Martial Arts. So for today’s blog it’s my job is to get you updated with the latest news and goings on in and around this crazy joint.

Last weeks NAGA Grappling Tournament…Yeah a word about that…

Let me start off by saying I love the NAGA Events and the folks who run them, namely Kipp, Joe and Laura. Great people for sure.

Last weeks event took place in Glassboro NJ, which we got to in about 2 hours.

As soon as I pulled up to the venue I knew something wasn’t right. The line to get in was like 2 miles long and there were cars parked everywhere.

Long story short: This venue was waaayyy to small for an event like this. In fact, it was so packed inside (and out) that the local fire marshal was called….

The event got shut down. Kid you not. First time in my life this has happened. It was a mad house with plenty of not-so-happy people all over the place.

Look, i’m not gonna bad mouth the NAGA or anything lame like that. Mistakes happen and I’m pretty sure Kipp and gang will learn from what happened.

They’ve already reached out to me via email and are actively trying to fix the situation and make everyone happy.

Results for Ivey League MMA up until the point of being shut down are as follows:

    Jacob Miller – 2nd Place
    Jameson Gerrity – 2nd Place
    Magnus Benz – DNP
    Seton Gerrity – DNP
    Finton Moreno – 3rd Place

The Pan Kids BJJ Championships takes place tomorrow in California.

As if my nerves weren’t bad enough. Taking place tomorrow (Sunday) in Los Angeles is the Pan Kids Brazilian/Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Championships.

For those not in the “know”, Pan Kids is the highest level BJJ/Grappling tournament in the world for youth 14 years of age and under.

All of the best kids and teams show up in California for this event. Not just kids in the United States either.

Teams from Russia, Japan, Brazil, Mexico and Canada all make it a point to attend Pan Kids.

We sent a team of 5 this year. 5 of our best and brightest kids will take to the mats in search of a lifelong dream, to be crowned Pan Kids Champion and have their picture placed on the IL wall of champions.
