Results from the Copa Nova are in and Charles Cherry continues to make a big splash on the competitive grappling scene! He was a leader to fellow Ivey Leaguers with his strong performances and positive attitude. Six other students joined him at the competition, giving Coach Danny and Assistant Neil plenty of matches to coach.

Charles Cherry faced three tough opponents to win the Gold in Men’s Intermediate Super Heavyweight. He submitted his first two opponents with a paintbrush, and won the final round on points. His impressive performance made clear that Charles is ready for the advanced division! Way to go Charles Cherry in setting such a fine example for other Ivey League students to follow.

Another student to place was Teresa Russin; earning Bronze in Women’s No Gi Beginner and Silver in Women’s Gi White belt, under 135 lbs. Her best match occurred in the Gi division, landing her first submission in competition with a beautifully executed armbar.

Corey Bisset had a controversial call made against him in the semi-finals. He rebounded back to take Bronze in the Men’s Beginner Under 140 lbs division. This was his first grappling competition and we expect to see more strong showings from him in the future.

Honorable mention to the other students who competed in the Copa Nova including Jeaneo Binney, Jeremy Cassio, Eric Davis, and John Manning. Thank you to the families and friends who supported these competitors and came out to watch the event.
