Below is a video Danny Ives filmed a while back, it’s of him and Jeaneo Binney showing the “De La Riva” guard and a sweep from it.
This has been Danny’s most popular video to date.
The reason this type of guard is named De La Riva is because it was first used and perfected by Ricardo De La Riva, a very famous Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt fighter in Brazil. It’s very common throughout most BJJ circles today and that’s because it’s got a ton of good moves that come from it and it’s not super hard to pick up and apply, even for a beginner.
So anyhow, check out the video and see what you think, who knows, you might like it and then you have a whole new sweeping and finishing game from the guard. Good luck!
