On Saturday June 19th, Ivey league sent one of our more “senior” member up to Bear Delaware to compete in the US Grappling/Diamond State games.  Paul Peck brought home two bronze medals in the 30+ middleweight (175.5) Gi & No-Gi divisions.

In the first round of the Gi division he defeated a tough opponent that had beaten him earlier in the day in no-gi.  The match was back and forth, with Paul defending his back from several chokes before reversing the position, passing the guard, and applying a textbook armbar for the hard fought victory.  In the bronze medal match he won via an Americana (paintbrush) from side control.   The bronze medal in no-gi was won on points, with Paul winning 6-2 on two separate guard passes.

As a intense competitor Paul isn’t satisfied with bronze, but realizes that it takes time to adjust to competitions and that he is steadily improving.  He will take these matches, learn from them, and come back stronger next time.
