For the blog today we wanted to cover a little bit about the game “tug of war”. This is a game/drill that we use here at Ivey League a whole lot and for good reason, this is a game that hits on most of the major muscles that a kid or adult would use in a real fight or self defense situation.

We’re not super sure where tug of war comes from but we love it. Sometimes we mix the game up because we will have some kids that are very strong so we will have one kid vs. 2 or even 3 kids! This game works your legs, back and of course, grip strength (something lots of kids lack but need) and the kids love it.

Below is a video of one of the kids classes where we were having a bunch of kids take on an instructor, in this case it was coach Grits.

Ok now you know a little more about this drill, get some people together and see for yourself why this is such a great game!
