    What the is the arm lock or armbar as I like to call it? It’s a submission hold technique that attacked the joint of the elbow and either forces your opponent to tap out or if it was a real fight the arm would break.

    Many different styles of MMA use the armbar. They are:

    * Gracie Jiu Jitsu
    * Sombo (Russian Grappling)
    * Judo
    * Some forms of Karate

    In the last few weeks the armbar has been even more popular thanks to the likes of Ronda Rousey. Ronda has won all of her pro MMA fights via the armbar.

    What is the best position to get the armbar? For a beginner I would say the mount. That’s an easy starting point with the easiest set ups to learn.

    Where can you get the armbar from position-wise? Oh man so many places. Mount, back mount, side control, the guard, knee on belly and so many more.

    I myself have always loved the armbar and have used it countless times in both the classroom and in self defense. I admit that I don’t like to use it in real fights if I can help it just due to the fact that I don’t want to hurt someones arm like that. However sometimes the need does come up.

    Anyway, check out the videos below and study up on the armbar/armlock. It’s a good time.
