This weekend my long time friend and training partner Mike “The Hulk” Easton will be fighting Ivan Menjivar. The fight will take place in the UFC on the Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen UFC card.
The fight card itself is awesome but with Mike fighting it’s even better. For those who don’t know Mike let me give you some background on him.
Mike is the first home grown, built from the ground up fighter to make it to the UFC from Team Lloyd Irvin. That says a lot right there.
Me and Mike go way back. I will say, and this is coming from the heart, he’s just a good guy, a great person. Mike is the kind of guy that if you don’t like him then it’s not him, it’s YOU who stinks at life!
I can’t think of a better person or more humble guy then Mike Easton. The dude is just cool and is always so nice to the fans and students.
I met Mike back in 2003 on the local grappling circuit. I remember he was a young kid fighting for Team Lloyd Irvin. The first tournament I saw him at he beat a purple belt in a BJJ match. That doesn’t sound like a big deal but keep this in mind: MIKE EASTON WAS A WHITE BELT!
After that match I kept an eye on him. He was always winning the local Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments so I didn’t have a choice but to take notice. He moved on to medaling in the high level events too like the Pan Ams and World Championships of BJJ.
He was doing all that while at the same time fighting MMA here on the east coast and in Brazil. He held a few belts with different organizations and had a great record.
He got his black belt in BJJ and then signed with the UFC and the rest as they say is history!
Mike also has a sister, Nyjah, that is also a BJJ Black Belt and fights for Team Lloyd Irvin.
Below are some videos of Mike Easton that I think all the students of Ivey league will love. Oh yeah and even the people that aren’t students will dig them as well!
