In an historic night, Master Danny Ives promoted Neil Duke to faixa roxa!!!!! That’s purple belt in case you were unsure. Neil was of course very humble in his acceptance of the promotion which was long over due according to Master Danny.
Neil began his training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu years ago at Team Lloyd Irvin Camp Springs. He has always been very methodical in his approach to mastering the art. It seems he treats BJJ with as much attention to detail as his profession as an attorney. Neil has a busy schedule and travels from Baltimore to train and teach at Ivey League MMA as much as he possibly can. In addition to his vast knowledge of technique, Neil is extremely strong and willing to take on any size or level opponent. He is also a great training partner for the ladies at Ivey League, offering them tough matches without ever causing injury. We really could not ask for a better student, teacher, or team supporter. Oh and as an aside, Neil recently celebrated his 47th birthday. His ability, dedication and love for BJJ is an inspiration for us all. Neil will always hold a place in the history books as he is the first student promoted to purple belt at Ivey League MMA (Master Danny makes sure his students are ready for the next level before promoting them to say the least!). Black belt instructor Charles Allen couldn’t agree more with Master Danny’s decision to promote Neil and he always stays late on Friday night to attend Neil’s class.
Please congratulate Coach Neil next time you see him or plan to join him for his Friday night No Gi class at 7:30pm every week. His instruction is top notch, just like his game! Way to go Neil!
