Anyone who knows me knows that I love martial arts. No I’m not kidding, I LOVE IT!
And I love all martial arts like karate, BJJ, Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling and of course….Sombo!
What is Sombo you ask? Sombo is the russians version of Jiu Jitsu. In fact it’s very much like BJJ but with a touch of Judo in there and a bunch of leg locks.
In MMA there are many fighters who come from Sombo but none more famous then Fedor Emelianenko. Fedor at one time was regarding as the best Mixed martial arts fighter in the world. He comes from a heavy background in both sport and combat Sombo.
I’ve studied Sombo on and off for about 16 years so I feel like I know a thing or two about it. I was messing around on youtube this morning and came across this awesome sombo highlight that I thought would be awesome to share on this fine Friday.
A lot of people don’t know this but Master Lloyd Irvin is a black belt in Sombo and very much the best leg lock guy I’ve ever worked with, hands down. I owe much of my Sombo skills to him!
Check out the video below of Sombo great Igor Kurinnoy.
