The over/under guard pass is a series that we teach here at Ivey league MMA a lot, and for good reason, it works!
I’ve been using it for well over 10 years and passed many guards with it.
Who are some people you might know that use the over/under guard pass? Well the best known guys in Gracie Jujitsu and the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) world would be:
- BJ PENN
- GORDO
- FABIO GURGEL
- DAMIAN MAIA
- JIMMY PEDRO (JUDO)
The names above are just a few, there are more.
Now, one thing I admit right out of the gate is that the over/under passing skill set isn’t the easiest to master. It took me time to get the details down and more time after that to be able to hit it live (live means against a resisting opponent in the real world).
With that said you have to start somewhere so lets do that now. Watch the video below, it’s me teaching it in a youtube clip. Rather then have me try and take you through it via a blog post I think the video will do it’s job and do it much better then my typing…
In the video you get an idea of the technique. Now in that video I showed it nogi but it’s going to work just fine in gi or for self defense.
In my upcoming DVD set, this whole technique series will be covered so don’t worry, this is just a taste of what’s to come.
I guarantee that if you drill this skill set and try it enough it’s going to change your guard passing game for the better. Have faith people because I know what works!
Oh and btw, the video below is proof of how well it works. Watch the video and at 55 seconds in you see BJ Penn go into the “over/under” to pass the guard.
