I’m sure a lot of you reading this blog are thinking “what in the world is a toehold!?” Ok ok I get that the name is weird and misleading because in the grand scheme of things it has nothing to do with the toes being attacked.
The name “toehold” comes from the position of the grip on the foot, covering the toes and holding there, hence the “Toehold”
This is a great great leg locking skill and if done right works very well to stop an attacker and will also break the ankle (which is the joint you’re really attacking with this move anyway!)
Below is a video I filmed while teaching at Cornell Universaty on the weekend of 11-12-2010. It’s a long video but I feel like it covers all the major points of the toehold and give you the best chance of success because I mean, if you can’t do the move right then what good is it!?
