I’m very lucky to have had the kind of success with my program, I know this and I’m thankful everyday for it. One of my favorite parts of my job is hearing about all the fitness and weight loss stories from students. I remember Mike Murphy telling me that he lost 60 pounds in 7 months, or Scott Keller losing 40 pounds in 3 months, amazing.

At lot of people don’t know this but I too lost a lot of weight when I first started training in MMA. I lost 35 pounds in 8 weeks. All the stories about the students getting fit and my own experiences gave me an idea to write about some of the keys that cause this weight loss/fitness phenomena to work.

I very much believe that it boils down to a few things, and they are:

    • A different type of cardio and fitness. (Fighting fit if you want to call it that)
    • Workout routines that change all the time (tricking your body
    • Fun interesting workouts, keeps things fresh
    • No workout is like an MMA workout, no question about it
    • People are there to push you and help you get better

Let’s talk about the cardio or I should say the different types of cardio you get from taking MMA classes, which teach Kickboxing, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and Wrestling. All 3 styles have unique cardio benefits and when you combine them all together it’s a killer workout and is sure to raise your level of fitness (of course that means getting in shape).

You have different class routines that keep the workouts fresh and fun. Lets face it, if it’s boring most people won’t want to do it.  With MMA classes you have so much  to work on and it puts you though the workout of your life. If you add in some light rolling (BJJ ground fighting) at the end of class then you’ve really got the whole enchilada!

Simply put, no workout or fitness class is like an MMA class. I’ve had top fitness instructors take my class and say they never got a workout like that. That right there should tell you something. All that plus you have people around you (your teammates and coaches) to push you past your comfort zone. Oh and you don’t have to be in shape to get started, I should point that out (i wasn’t anywhere near in shape).

So listed above are the reasons people loss weight taking Martial Arts classes, whether it’s MMA, BJJ, Kickboxing or Wrestling. Keep shedding those pounds guys and gal and report back to me when you reach your target weight!
