Have you ever had a day where you just couldn’t get it right? You know, just a crappy day that you wished would come to an end? Sure you have, we’ve all had days like that.
For those training in something like Muay Thai, BJJ or MMA, you get those same kind of days…only on a mat inside of your dojo.
Some days you’ll feel like a rock star in class. Everything is going right and you smell success. Other days however, you can’t get it right. You stink (or so you think).
Too many students let one bad workout convince them that they’re terrible. That they’ll never be any good.
This is 100% normal, so no worries. You can put down that knife…keep reading.
Even the best fighters lots of ups and downs. It’s just a part of the training.
My wife once said this to me: “You need bad days, otherwise you wouldn’t know what a good day was”
I always liked that saying. If we didn’t have bad days then we wouldn’t appreciate the good ones.
Set Goals & Stay Focused!
No matter how many bumps in the road you encounter you’ve got to stay focused and keep on working toward your goals.
Don’t have goals? Take some time to think about a few. Write them down and work to achieve them.
You’ll get there. You’ll be good. It just takes time. I always tell my kid students it’s part of the process.
In the end you’ve got to always believe in yourself and your skills. Always be working hard to get better. Always seek a higher level of understanding about the martial arts.
Treat a bad day on the mats the way they should be treated. Just a bad day, nothing more, nothing less. It happened, no big whoop. Move on.
Just try and make your next practice/class better. Try to improve.
If you keep your training consistent then it’s only a matter of time before you have very few bad days. Yes I assure you, as you get better and better the good days will far outnumber the bad ones.
That’s my black belt advice for this fine Friday morning. Now get out there and attack the day!
