    The way we teach here at IL has a lot to do with learning a technique, then drilling on it until the technique feels natural.

    In a perfect world you’d like to have a good mix of drilling, fitness related exercises and rolling/sparring. If you’ve got all that in place success shouldn’t be too far behind.

    When it comes to drilling, it’s really not a one size fits all system. Over the years I’ve learned that different people have different ways of drilling things.

    Some like to drill fast while others prefer to take their time and go through the details in slow-mo. Everyone learns in their own unique way.

    In the end I don’t think there’s a such way as bad drilling. I think it’s more a matter of what you like to do and what works best for you to learn.

    For me personally I like to drill on the slower side. I need to know all the fine details of the technique and when I take my time I can really go through everything step by step.

    You also have to understand that something like Muay Thai Kickboxing can’t really be done slow.

    The movements are a lot different from say Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or Wrestling. Kickboxing is more about action and reaction timing. That’s really tough to drill at a slow pace.

    So, make it one of your priorities in 2015 to get more drilling in! Remember, even bad drilling is better then no drilling at all.

    Find a way to drill that allows you to remember the techniques and those much needed details that go along with them. Do that and you’ll be just fine.

    I’ve included some great technique videos for you to study in your downtime. Study them then drill like crazy.
