Ever heard of a guy named Terry Brands? No? Okay, I’m going to tell you a story about this guy.

Most people have no idea who Terry Brands is. I’ll just start off by saying he’s one of the most intimidating people I’ve ever met in my whole life.

    The story goes like this:

I was out in Iowa working on my Wrestling skills with a good friend of mine, Jim Kelly.

I’d just finished with my morning session and decided to hang back and watch the team practice, which started in a few minutes.

As I’m sitting there watching I hear a door open and slam behind me. Since my back was to the door I didn’t actually see who came in.

He’s where it gets strange. I kid you not, I felt this weird aura come over me. I can’t explain it man, but I could sense a force near me.

I’m being 100% serious. I was kinda freaked out but at the same time too scared to look behind me.

I finally worked up the courage to turn around and take a look. So I slowly turned and there’s this dude standing over me.

He says “What you doing son?”

I darn near crapped my pants. Low and behold It was none other than Terry Brands. All 5’5 and 150 pounds of him. Small guy right? Whatever man, he felt like 9 feet tall.

It’s not his size that scared me, It’s how he carries himself. It’s just one of those things where you know right away who the alpha is.

No words need to be spoken, everyone in the room just knows who runs the show, I know I sure did. A scary guy no doubt.

I found out A bunch of the Wrestlers are scared to death of Terry too. I’ve gotta admit, hearing that did make me feel better haha.

This is the guy. When he walks in a room you'll know it trust me.

A little background on Terry, he’s the head assistant coach of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, who’ve won 4 NCAA Team Titles in the last decade or so.

Terry himself was a 2x NCAA Champion for Iowa as well as a 2x world champion and Olympic Bronze medalist.

This is obviously a man who commands great respect, as a coach and athlete.

It turns out he’s a really nice guy. A very intense guy sure but also nice. He’s a good family man who never misses church on Sunday.

What made me think of him and tell this story is this video I happened to find while skimming youtube.

It features Terry giving a speech to the local high school wrestling team. He’s telling them about what it takes to be successful, on the mats and in life.

He talks about being focused on the task at hand, about how to get the job done no matter who, or what gets in your way.

Dude, this is a sick speech that’s sure to fire you up as it did for me.

It’s a very motivating video that anyone, adult or child, should watch. Listen to what he says, it’s spot on.

Check it out, see below. Oh and below that is a highlight video showcasing Terry and his equally intimidating brother Tom smashing fools.
