I get this question all the time. “Which style of martial arts is the toughest?” or they wanna know what’s the hardest training I’ve ever gone through.

It’s funny cause everyone expects me to say something like Muay Thai, or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Both are tough styles sure and a big part of MMA, but no not the toughest.

That award goes to the lovely art of Wrestling
. Yes, wrestling. The same type you see on ESPN2 or the BIG 10 Network.

Of all the martial arts I’ve done, nothing compares to wrestling. It’s in a league of it’s own.

Wrestling has a way of pushing you past your normal limits, getting you so tired you just wanna lay down on the mats and die.

Yes there’s a reason wrestlers dominate in events like the UFC and Bellator. The workouts these guys go through definitely helps prepare you for the cage.

Yes this is indeed me, Danny Ives, just about lifeless after a brutal wrestling workout

Just to make it through a season of wrestling, especially college wrestling at the D-1 level, is incredibly difficult and most simply can’t hang.

Over the years I’ve been lucky to have been invited to train with many of the nations best wrestlers and teams.

Ha as I wrote that I couldn’t help but think maybe lucky isn’t the right word, lucky for the opportunity yes but very unlucky for the beatings I took.

I used to travel to the University of Iowa for a few weeks at a time. I can say for certain I’ve never been pushed so hard.

I’m not joking when I say this, some of those workouts were so brutal I thought I was gonna die.

And that’s something people don’t know about, the workouts these guys go through with weights, running, circuits and stuff like that, it’s a whole different level.

Looking back on it, I’d rather do time in prison then go through those Iowa workouts again. Not a joke by the way.

I could go on and on with great wrestling room stories but I’ll save that for another morning.

Instead, check out the videos I posted below. Super good highlights that get the blood flowing.

The one video is a highlight featuring one of the top D-1 teams, Nebraska, during an early pre season workout.

Part of being a great wrestler is going through brutal workout sessions like the one in this video.

It shows them lifting weights, doing circuits, running, body weight movements and so on. Definitely worth a look.

The other video showcases the one and only Jordan Burroughs, 3x world champion and Olympic Gold Medalist.

You might hate wrestling or whatever but trust me this highlight video will make you a fan.

If nothing else, watching these guys going through this intense workout is sure to get you hyped up and ready to attack the day the same way these dudes attack this workout.
